The Station
At the heart of this initiative is a new online portal built for local businesses to donate goods specifically needed by The Station. By creating a system where venues can list furniture, glassware, or leftover catering for repurposing, we not only reduce waste but also cut down on unwanted or unusable donations. This ensures support is targeted, effective, and truly beneficial for the community.
The project also includes an arts engagement program led by Jack Manning Bancroft team at AIME. Over several days, participants will work together to transform a group canvas into repurposed hoodies, sparking creativity and connection. These pieces may later feature in YCK venues or community events, highlighting the talent and resilience within this community.
To make the experience even more meaningful, catering will be provided by Plate It Forward, with YCK staff volunteering their time. This not only elevates the program but also strengthens the sense of collaboration and shared purpose.
The partnership goes beyond creativity and sustainability, with YCK venues also exploring fundraising initiatives to support The Station’s mission. From Return and Earn container proceeds to donating a percentage of sales, venues can play an active role in generating ongoing financial support.
The project’s broader goal is to remove stigma around homelessness, while improving perceptions of safety in York Lane an area where The Station and YCK intersect. By fostering direct collaboration between venues and community, the initiative shows how small changes can create lasting impact.
Ultimately, this project is about connection. It brings businesses, artists, and community together to reduce waste, inspire creativity, and build a more inclusive, supportive YCK Laneways precinct.
